With the support of the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program, on June 13, the VRU Committee on State Building held a roundtable discussion in the Cherkasy Oblast on the topic: "Experience of the Starosta Institute Functioning. Regional dimension". The Program helps committees organize public events to carry out the parliamentary oversight function and evaluate the effectiveness of legislation in consultation with stakeholders.
On June 13-14, the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program conducted a "Parliamentary Civic Education" training for educators, civil society organizations, and activists. The 25 participants strengthened their skills in organizing and conducting parliamentary civic education campaigns and events to engage more voters in the legislative process.
Within the framework of the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program, on June 12, the International Republican Institute organized an experience exchange meeting for more than 20 MPs from Ukraine, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The MPs discussed parliamentary reform, challenges of wartime, the prospects of post-war recovery, and European integration.
The RADA: Next Generation Program conducted training on "Activities and Reporting of a Member of Parliament of Ukraine" for MP teams in Lviv Oblast. The workshop, which aims to strengthen the representative function of the Verkhovna Rada, was attended by 35 people, including MPs Natalya Pipa, Halyna Vasylchenko, Pavlo Bakunets, their assistants, and Roman Lozynskyi's team.
On June 7-9, the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program held an online training on "Committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine" for 29 Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights staff members. The training sessions are aimed at strengthening the institutional capacity of parliamentary oversight bodies.
On June 9, the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program organized a coordination meeting with representatives of Parliamentary Committees to summarize the results of the pilot projects on implementing the post-legislative scrutiny (PLS) methodology. PLS helps to analyze and evaluate the application and effectiveness of adopted legislation.
USAID RADA Next Generation is a five-year initiative (2021-2026), implemented by the “Internews Ukraine” NGO, that aims to advance the “next generation” of reforms that will enable the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (VRU) to become a modern, effective institution that promotes accountability and democratic development in Ukraine.
From May 30 to June 3, Igor Kogut, the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program Director, traveled to Brussels to hold meetings and consultations with MEPs, representatives of political groups, and the European Parliament Secretariat. The parties agreed to work together to strengthen the capacity and potential of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
