On June 9, the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program organized a coordination meeting with representatives of Parliamentary Committees to summarize the results of the pilot projects on implementing the post-legislative scrutiny (PLS) methodology.
PLS practices help to analyze and evaluate the application and effectiveness of adopted legislation. They have already proved to be effective in the parliaments of democratic countries, so the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program facilitates implementing the PLS practices as part of the procedures of the Ukrainian Parliament, in particular, as part of its oversight function.
The meeting participants emphasized that developing a unified PLS methodology is important and noted that the systematic implementation of these practices will require additional resources.
The USAID RADA: Next Generation Program plans to hold a public discussion of this initiative on June 29, so stay tuned for our announcements!
The Program, together with experts from the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, supported pilot projects of the PLS in cooperation with three VRU committees: the Committee on Social Policy and Protection of Veterans' Rights, the Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services, and the Committee on State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning.
