RANG facilitates VRU committees to discuss legislation with voters

With the support of the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program, on June 13, the VRU Committee on State Building, Local Self-Governance, Regional Development and Urban Planning held a roundtable discussion in the Cherkasy Oblast on the topic: "Experience of the Starosta Institute Functioning. Regional dimension: Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv Oblasts."

The Program helps committees organize public events to effectively carry out the parliamentary oversight function and evaluate the effectiveness of the adopted legislation in consultation with stakeholders.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, regional military administrations, all-Ukrainian associations of local governments, territorial communities of five regions, civic activists, and experts.

The participants discussed how the legislation on Starostas is being implemented and how it can be improved. DESPRO experts prepared the report on the practice of applying the laws.

After the roundtable, Vitaliy Bezgin, chairman of the Subcommittee on Administrative and Territorial Organization and Local Self-Government, said that the Committee would improve the legislation and present the relevant draft law in July.

"The war has made the norms of the legislation on Starosta districts impossible to implement in some places," Bezgin said.
