On July 8, the USAID "RADA: Next Generation" Program organized a conference on "Openness of the Verkhovna Rada and Parliamentary Diplomacy in Wartime" to discuss the achievements and challenges facing Ukrainian parliamentarism in times of war.
The USAID "RADA: Next Generation" Program organized a visit of the Ukrainian delegation to the Austrian Parliament, during which the parties agreed to establish a Democracy Workshop in the Verkhovna Rada. Participants also took part in a forum dedicated to the Democracy Workshop, during which they discussed success stories, challenges, and prospects for this model of education.
USAID RADA Next Generation is a five-year initiative (2021-2026), implemented by the “Internews Ukraine” NGO, that aims to advance the “next generation” of reforms that will enable the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (VRU) to become a modern, effective institution that promotes accountability and democratic development in Ukraine.
On June 25, the Center of Policy and Legal Reform, as part of USAID RADA: Next Generation, organized an expert discussion on "Constitutional oversight in European states." The discussions featured dozens of leading experts, including judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. They explored the practices of forming independent constitutional oversight bodies in Europe and examined models of these bodies based on parliamentary quotas.
USAID RADA: Next Generation, in collaboration with the WFD and the OSCE/ODIHR, organized an interactive workshop on democratic lawmaking on June 24-25 in Warsaw. The event was attended by 13 representatives from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Ministry of Justice, and the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Head of the Research Department of the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program participated in a conference at the Austrian Parliament dedicated to the Parliamentary Research Day and presented the findings of two studies conducted by the program titled "Parliament in War: Ukraine’s example," which focused on the operations of the VRU from the onset of russia's full-scale invasion to the present day.
The law stipulates that the authorities must conduct public consultations, involving a wide range of stakeholders and analyzing all proposals, and establishes a procedure for conducting consultations. The RADA: Next Generation Program strongly supported the adoption of the law, as it promotes greater citizen engagement in the legislative process.
