Experts of the USAID RADA: The Next Generation Program prepared and presented recommendations on the strategy for the development of social media of the Ukrainian Parliament for 2024-2025. The Program has been consistently strengthening the communication capabilities of the Ukrainian parliament to enable it to quickly adapt to new forms of communication, respond to the information needs of voters, and improve the quality of its products.
For six months, 7 interns joined the work of the Parliamentary Research Service's departments. They prepared over 40 analytical materials and had over 100 hours of training. Through the internship, the USAID RADA Next Generation Program seeks to train professional staff that will strengthen the capacity of the VRU Research Service and enhance its ability to provide analytical support to the Ukrainian Parliament.
On October 24, the expert discussed the results of the Legislative Process Quality Index. The index has been growing for the second session in a row and is a record high compared to the previous five sessions of VRU's IX convocation. Experts discussed what factors could have influenced this change and how to further improve the work of the Parliament.
On October 24, the grand opening of the All-Ukrainian Simulation Game on Civic Parliamentary Education "M18: We Are Lawmakers!" was held, attended by more than 1000 students and educators. 374 educational institutions from 23 regions of Ukraine have registered for the simulation game "We Are Lawmakers!". This means that thousands of schoolchildren will learn more about the work of the Parliament and develop their own petitions and bills!
The USAID RADA: Next Generation Program supported the participation of the delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine headed by Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk in the Third Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform, which is taking place this year in Riga. The Summit brought together delegations from over 40 countries and representatives of international organizations.
USAID RADA Next Generation is a five-year initiative (2021-2026), implemented by the “Internews Ukraine” NGO, that aims to advance the “next generation” of reforms that will enable the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (VRU) to become a modern, effective institution that promotes accountability and democratic development in Ukraine.
USAID RADA: Next Generation Program supported the Temporary Special Commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the protection of the rights of IDPs and other persons in organizing a parliamentary and public forum on “Strengthening the Protection of the Rights of Internally Displaced Persons” held on October 22 in Khmelnytskyi and attended by nearly 200 people. The forum brought together MPs, representatives of Ukrainian authorities at various levels, experts, the donor community and the public.
On October 17, the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) held a workshop within the framework of the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program to share the experience of the post-legislative scrutiny (PLS) with the Verkhovna Rada committees. The post-legislative scrutiny allows the parliament to assess the impact and effectiveness of adopted laws, which contributes to their further improvement based on the collected data.
