On May 20, the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program organized an online presentation "How to Make the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Accessible for People with Limited Mobility and Why an Accessibility Audit is Needed?" attended by more than 30 representatives of the VRU Committees and Secretariat. The Program plans to audit the physical accessibility of the VRU buildings.
With the support of the USAID "RADA: Next Generation" Program, a parliamentary-municipal forum dialogue "Housing for Internally Displaced Persons" was held in Transcarpathia, organized by the VRU Temporary Special Commission on the Protection of the Rights of IDPs. These are hundreds of participants, tens of hours of substantive discussions, field meetings for interaction with voters and much more!
USAID RADA Next Generation is a five-year initiative (2021-2026), implemented by the “Internews Ukraine” NGO, that aims to advance the “next generation” of reforms that will enable the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (VRU) to become a modern, effective institution that promotes accountability and democratic development in Ukraine.
The forum "Veterans - the Path Home" was held in Lutsk on the initiative of the VRU Committee on Social Policy and Protection of the Rights of Veterans and MPs Iryna Konstankevych and Taras Tarasenko. The organization of the event was supported by the USAID "RADA: Next Generation" Program, which helps MPs to involve a wide range of stakeholders for joint solutions to socially significant problems, in particular, in conditions of martial law.
More than 500 schoolchildren took part in the Youth Democracy Forum! Together with MPs, they discussed the results of the simulation game "We are Lawmakers", in which more than half a thousand students from 43 Ukrainian schools modeled the work of the committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and worked out their own draft laws.
The USAID RADA: Next Generation Program supported the visit of representatives of the APDU to Graz, Austria, where the FP-AP held a meeting to mark the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe. The Ukrainian delegation deepened ties with European partners and discussed the need for assistance to Ukraine.
The decree on the access of journalists to the building of the Verkhovna Rada was signed by the Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, and from now on, representatives of various Ukrainian media, regardless of political direction, cover the work of MPs directly from the building of the Parliament. The return of the journalists took place with the active support of the USAID "RADA: Next Generation" Program.
On April 25, USAID "RADA: Next Generation" Program held an online presentation titled "How to Make the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine's Web Resources Barrier-Free and Inclusive," which was attended by over 40 representatives from the Verkhovna Rada's Сommittees and Secretariat. The Program helps the Verkhovna Rada make virtual and physical facilities and legislative processes accessible to people with disabilities.
