Intensifying cooperation between civil society organizations and Parliament

USAID "RADA: Next Generation" Program has launched the "Citizens and Parliament" grant initiative and held an introductory training session for grantees on February 8-9. Seven Ukrainian organizations within the grant program will build interaction and cooperation between MPs and their constituents, engage citizens in the work of the Parliament, study constituents' issues, and conduct public consultations.

Strengthening VRU Research Service's monitoring and evaluation capacities

The USAID RADA: Next Generation Program conducted another strategic session for the staff of the Parliamentary Research Service, focusing on monitoring and evaluation of the institution's activities. Participants learned about various monitoring methods, identified possible indicators for evaluating the activities of the Research Service, and summarized the results of the work.

Role of center of government in Ukraine in legislative process and EU accession

On January 24, the CPLR organized a "Center of Government: Tasks, Challenges, and Development Prospects" roundtable discussion within the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program. Our experts and participants discussed the SIGMA report on the role of the government center and how to improve the organization and functioning of the government center in Ukraine, considering EU accession.

Strengthening capacity of VRU committees through cooperation with PACE

On January 24-26, the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program is organizing a study tour of the VRU Secretariat to the Council of Europe and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg to develop international cooperation in order to strengthen the institutional, communication, and research capacities of Ukraine's Parliament.

Record-breaking parliamentary lesson celebrating Ukraine's Unity Day

Supported by USAID "RADA: Next Generation" Program, the Parliamentary Education Center organized a special lesson on the 105th anniversary of the Unification Act of the Ukrainian People's Republic and the West Ukrainian People's Republic. Over 9,000 students, including those from frontline cities, registered for the lesson. In addition to the historical tour, the children were told about the role of the Ukrainian parliament in state-building.

Strengthening EU integration capacities of parliamentary committees

On January 16-18, the USAID RADA: Next Generation program conducted a training on "Approximation of Ukrainian Legislation to EU Law: Practical Aspects for the Verkhovna Rada" for representatives of the VRU Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management. Approximation of national legislation to the EU acquis is a prerequisite for Ukraine's EU accession, so the VRU considers it one of its main priorities.
