Deepening VRU's knowledge of parliamentary oversight

With the support of the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program, the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine conducted a training on "Parliament's Oversight Function" on July 4-6, which 28 VRU Secretariat staffers attended.

The RADA: Next Generation Program helps build the training capacity of the Parliamentary Research Service to provide high-quality professional training to MPs, their teams, and the staff of the VRU Secretariat.

During the workshops, the participants analyzed the following:

  • subjects and objects of parliamentary oversight in Ukraine, their interaction, and communication channels;
  • importance of parliamentary oversight, its practices and procedures;
  • international experience in the implementation of the parliamentary oversight function;
  • ways to improve the exercise of this function in Ukraine.

Also, during the interactive sessions, participants modeled the implementation of parliamentary oversight in different situations, discussed the obstacles they faced, and gave recommendations on how to overcome them, taking into account the best international practices learned.
