Program deepens knowledge of parliament and government representatives about policy-making process

On November 29-30, USAID RADA: Next Generation Program held a training "Policy-making process and the full cycle of legislative oversight" for the VRU Committee on Social Policy employees and relevant ministries.

Despite energy challenges, the participants were able to take part in the training and discuss the following:

  • how important and useful the policy cycle approach is;
  • peculiarities of the effective process of policy formation;
  • how to define social problems and develop policies for them;
  • why and how to conduct policy monitoring and evaluation;
  • what is post-legislative scrutiny, and what are its advantages.

Participants also performed various practical tasks to acquire theoretical knowledge. In groups, they developed policies on challenging issues, studied international experiences, and modeled the activities of stakeholders at various stages of the policy cycle.

As a result, according to the survey, participants' knowledge of the training topic increased by a third! Participants also noted that online workshops have become useful for their professional activities.

USAID RADA: Next Generation Program and Westminster Foundation for Democracy have recently developed the training "Policy-making process and the full cycle of legislative oversight." It includes theoretical knowledge about the importance of the policy cycle and legislative scrutiny, as well as practical cases. The first pilot online workshops took place at the end of October and were recommended by 100% of participants.
