Teaching civic society how to participate in legislative processes

The USAID RADA: The Next Generation Program organized a two-day training in Odesa titled "Citizen Participation in the Legislative Process. Advocacy" for 50 activists, volunteers and representatives of non-governmental organizations.

The trainers explained how to get involved in the work of the Parliament, where to get information about the activities of the Verkhovna Rada, and what are the features of parliamentary advocacy. The participants simulated parliamentary events and developed an advocacy campaign strategy at all stages of the legislative cycle - from formulating a social problem to monitoring the implementation of the decision.

The training was held in parallel with the offsite meeting of the Temporary Special Commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the Protection of the Rights of Internally Displaced Persons and Other Persons Affected by the Armed Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine in Odesa Oblast, so MPs attended the workshops and personally talked to the participants. They gave practical advice on how to effectively interact with parliamentarians and engage in lawmaking. They also discussed effective ways for the public to respond to challenges in the humanitarian sphere.

The USAID RADA: Next Generation Program helps the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine interact with the public and a wide range of stakeholders. To this end, the Program conducts trainings for civil society, explaining the tools and formats of cooperation with the Parliament.
