RANG strengthens VRU's European integration capacities

On June 13-16, the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program organized a study visit to the Croatian Parliament for VRU staff to learn best practices of European integration and develop interparliamentary dialogue.

Croatia's experience in European integration is significant, as the country was the last who joined the EU. During the week, the VRU Secretariat met with the representatives of the Croatian Parliament, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, and the Government Legislative Office, which brought about a solid basement for further cooperation.

During productive discussions, the Ukrainian delegation learned the following:

• how Croatia approximated national legislation to EU law and planned legislative work;
• what was the role of the Croatian Parliament and the European Integration Committee on the way to EU membership;
• why the Parliament needed to evaluate the laws and carry out post-legislative scrutiny activities;
• how the government and parliament interacted in fulfilling the requirements for EU membership;
• what digital tools are used for legislative work in Croatia.

Representatives of the VRU Secretariat also talked to Croatian MP Domagoj Hajduković, who revealed the political dimension of European integration and advised on how to organize this process effectively.
