Strategizing to strengthen capacity of VRU Secretariat

USAID "RADA: Next Generation" Program hosted a strategic session with staffers of the VRU Secretariat, led by Secretary General Vyacheslav Shtuchnyi, and Members of Parliament. The 100 participants reviewed projects undertaken in the last two years of the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program and outlined future directions.

USAID "RADA: Next Generation" Program assists the VRU in implementing effective communication tools with stakeholders, executing legislative and oversight functions, conducting research, and enhancing the quality of the entire policy-making cycle.

During the strategic session, participants discussed:

  • Challenges and activities during martial law;
  • Opportunities and principles for cooperation between RANG and Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine;
  • Aspects of engaging citizens in the work of Ukrainian Parliament;
  • Strengthening the analytical capacity of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine;
  • Strengthening the communication capacity of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine;
  • Ukrainian Parliament's IT and cybersecurity.

VRU Secretariat representatives expressed their gratitude and spoke positively about their experience working with USAID "RADA: Next Generation" Program. Also, VRU staffers presented main achievements and goals for the future. The parties then delved into detailed discussions on work priorities for 2024.

"Our meeting today marks a great success story," said Igor Kogut, Chief of Party of USAID "RADA: Next Generation" Activity. "There was significant interactivity and active participation from the VRU Secretariat staffers, the leadership of the VRU Secretariat, and MPs. We share an understanding and a common vision regarding the goals and objectives of the program. We must utilize this challenging time, amidst the war, to drive reforms and continue building a modern parliament."
