USAID "RADA: Next Generation" Program and International IDEA organized a special session on Ukraine's democratic wartime experience at the Third Summit for Democracy, which took place in Seoul on March 18-20. The topic of the discussion was "Democratic Practices of Parliament with Citizens during Wartime: Involving Youth and Civil Society Organizations in Decision-Making Process."
The Program brought together representatives of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, NGOs, teachers, and students who shared their personal experiences of spreading parliamentary civic education under martial law, particularly within the framework of the VRU Educational Center. The Summit for Democracy was first organized in 2021 under the leadership of US President Joe Biden. Back then, 110 countries participated in the conference and agreed to defend themselves against authoritarianism, fight corruption, and promote respect for human rights.
This year, the summit's theme in Seoul was "Democracy for Future Generations". More than 1,000 delegates discussed improving policies to ensure a better future for next generations. Participants agreed that young people must be a source of positive social change and promote democratic values.
USAID "RADA: Next Generation" Program helps the Verkhovna Rada integrate into the international democratic community, learn the best parliamentary practices, and promote the Ukrainian experience worldwide. International cooperation will allow the Ukrainian parliament to develop institutionally and mobilize support from foreign partners to fight the russian aggressor.
