Training the public skills in advocacy and participation in the legislative process

On July 4-6, the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program conducted a "Public Participation in the Legislative Process. Advocacy" training for 35 representatives of civil society organizations and activists.

The Program develops the capacity of civil society to actively participate in the lawmaking process and effectively promote socially important initiatives. Close and productive interaction between the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the public will help to increase trust in the legislature.

During the online workshops, participants learned more about:

• lawmaking and legislative process in Ukraine;
• advantages and disadvantages of public participation tools;
• sources of information about Parliament's work;
• peculiarities of parliamentary advocacy and lobbying.

They also practiced writing appeals to MPs and developed an advocacy campaign strategy at all stages - from formulating a societal problem to monitoring the implementation of the decision.

This is the second training in a series that the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program conducts for the public. Last month, the Program organized a training on organizing parliamentary education events.
