On June 7, an online seminar "Croatia's Experience During the EU Accession Period. The Role of the Croatian Parliament in the Process of the EU Accession” took place for representatives of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Government, and NGOs. More than 140 participants took part in the event.
The speaker for the event was Maja Gregurić, Head of Department for the EU Court, Sector for European Law, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia. She shared the peculiarities of the Croatian legislature's operation in the period of the country's accession to the EU with the participants of the seminar.
The seminar was also attended by Oleksandr Kornienko, First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, who noted the importance of Croatia's experience in the context of European integration.
"The tasks that Ukraine has to accomplish are very ambitious, if to speak about the legislative side of the European integration. Therefore, the experience of Croatia, as well as of any other of our colleagues who have made their way to the EU candidacy, is of great value to us", stressed Oleksandr Kornienko.
Andreja Metelko-Zgombić, State Secretary for Europe, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, also spoke at the event, expressing support for Ukraine and readiness to contribute to Ukraine's European aspirations.
"Ukraine can count on Croatia's help and advice. Being the country that was the last to join the EU, we still have fresh knowledge that was gained during the accession negotiations, and we are ready to share it", added the State Secretary.
Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, Chair of the VRU Committee on EU Integration, who also took part in the seminar, thanked the Croatian counterparts for their assistance in granting Ukraine candidate status.
"I hope that this level of support and involvement will be maintained further and that our Croatian colleagues will remain a reliable shoulder to lean on in passing this trial. We also do hope that we will manage to pass this way quickly, efficiently, and with dignity", concluded the Chair of the VRU Committee.
