"Thank you for uniting, not being silent, but acting in solidarity within the framework of parliamentary diplomacy to defend the territorial integrity of Ukraine," Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed commenting on the adopted statement.
The statement was signed by the heads of relevant committees of the parliaments of Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Romania, France, Slovakia, Germany, Finland, and the Netherlands. “Fake referendums organized by the russian occupation regime in Ukraine are a clear violation of international law, a false pretext for the annexation of part of Ukraine and a continuation of the Crimean scenario”, Olena Kondratiuk noted.
According to the Chesno movement, which analyzed four draft laws registered in Ukraine’s Parliament, mandates’ seizure will not solve the problem. “It is critically important for society that collaborators and traitors cannot become deputies or hold government positions in the future. The best option is a court decision. Ensuring high-quality work of the law enforcement and judicial systems is much more difficult than simply removing the mandates of collaborators and traitors. USAID RADA: Next Generation Program hosted the International Parliamentary Technical Assistance Coordination Meeting, which succored in identifying the needs of constituents in the newly liberated territories of the Kharkiv region and helped coordinate efforts of parliamentarians, the donor community during wartime. Such cooperation would help restore the infrastructure, logistics, and allow businesses to operate safely in the region with a total 2.5 million population, in particular in constituency 175, which was partly occupied.
On September 26 and 28, Program experts participated in the meetings of the working group's unit that deals with the issues of the Code of Ethics and the status of MPs. Participants continued developing the Code of Ethics. Also, on September 29, USAID RADA: Next Generation Program experts participated in the meeting of the working group's unit dealing with legislative process issues. The participants of the meetings continued the discussion on proposed amendments to the VRU Rules of Procedure.
Within the Peer to Peer Support in Constituencies initiative, USAID RADA: Next Generation Program in cooperation with its partner, IRI, organized the study visit for teams of MPs Ihor Huz, Iryna Konstankevych (both For the Future faction) and Solomiya Bobrovska (Holos) to Lithuania as well as NGOs’ representatives and local self-governance from Volyn region to deepen cooperation and exchange best practices with the Lithuanian side, especially taking into account the challenges of wartime. The visit helped MPs get acquainted with new tools and approaches for interaction with voters, local governments, and NGOs, to implement control and representative functions and cooperate in the humanitarian and energy spheres.
