Strengthening VRU representatives' skills in parliamentary oversight

With the support of the USAID RADA: Next Generation program, the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine conducted a training on "Parliamentary Oversight Function" on January 16-18. Over 30 people, including VRU Secretariat staff, MPs, and their assistants, attended the workshops.

The RADA: Next Generation program helps build the training capacity of the Parliamentary Research Service to provide high-quality professional training to the VRU representatives. The parliament's oversight function is crucial for ensuring the sustainability of Ukraine's democracy.

During the workshops, the participants analyzed in detail:

  • subjects and objects of parliamentary oversight in Ukraine, their interaction, and communication channels;
  • practices, procedures, and international experience of parliamentary oversight;
  • ways to improve the implementation of the oversight function by the parliament in Ukraine.

During the interactive sessions, the participants also modeled the exercise of parliamentary oversight in different situations, discussed the obstacles they faced, and gave recommendations on how to overcome them, considering the best international practices.
