RANG assists VRU Energy Committee in carrying out its oversight function

On June 1-2, with the support of the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program and as part of its oversight function, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy, Housing and Utilities Services visited Ukrnafta's facilities in Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv Oblasts and held a field hearing to discuss the state of oil production and the prospects for the oil refining industry in Ukraine.

The USAID RADA: Next Generation Program supports parliamentary committees to conduct field hearings as they:

  1. improve communication and interaction between the Parliament and local authorities;
  2. promote public discussion of socially important issues;
  3. involve the public in finding ways to solve problems taking into account the interests of all stakeholders;
  4. allow parliamentary committees to strengthen their oversight function;
  5. positively impacts the quality of the committees' legislative work.

In addition to MPs and heads of Ukrainian companies, representatives of local communities in Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv Oblasts attended the field hearing.

You can watch the video recording of the field hearing via the link. Learn more about the meeting results in the Committee press release

As a result of the field hearing, the MPs decided to work closely together with Ukrnafta representatives to develop legislative proposals that will facilitate the development of oil production by Ukrainian companies.
