Strengthening the diplomatic and communication capacities of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for the European integration! The USAID Rada: Next Generation Program together with International IDEA experts organized an online briefing for members of the Ukrainian Parliament from different factions, which was attended by more than 40 participants.
The experts discussed:
- how the EU political landscape has changed after the elections
- how to strengthen cooperation between the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the European Parliament
- how to effectively communicate European integration to citizens ( experience of the European Parliament and political groups)
- how to resist manipulations and interference in the process of European integration of Ukraine and post-war reconstruction.
Mårten Ehnberg, Director of the USAID Rada: Next Generation Program, noted, "The success of European integration of Ukraine depends not only on reforms and international support, but also on how effectively the Verkhovna Rada can communicate with Ukrainian society and maintain this dialogue. Parliament should actively explain the importance of changes that bring Ukraine closer to the EU, as well as create opportunities for citizens to be involved in decision-making."
The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Oleksandr Korniyenko, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech, saying, "This is an important discussion, and we thank our partners for sharing their experience and practices. Effective communication is important for Parliament in explaining certain decisions and advancing the European integration process. In addition, transparency in communication is one of the main factors for Ukraine's recovery. With the partners' resources being involved, there should be an understanding of their costs."
