Director of the USAID RADA: Next Generation Program Ihor Kogut took part in the World Forum for Democracy on November 6-8 in Strasbourg. During the forum, he conducts working meetings to develop cooperation and strengthen the favorability of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
In particular, he met with the Council of Europe Director for Democratic Participation Matjaž Gruden, еру Council of Europe Director for Democratic Governance and Anti-Discrimination Claudia Luciani and Director of Committees of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Louise Barton.
The visit was influential in expanding cooperation with PACE in matters of involvement and democratic participation of citizens in the legislative process, as well as strengthening the control and communication capabilities of the Ukrainian parliament. The parties also discussed opportunities to exchange knowledge and experience both at the level of deputies and the secretariats of the VRU and PACE to strengthen the examination of Ukrainian draft laws.
Every year, the Council of Europe holds the World Forum for Democracy, which gathers hundreds of officials, politicians and activists. It discusses the most serious challenges to democracy. The main question of this year's 11th Forum was: "Democracy = peace?". The forum is also held to talk about democratic innovations and encourage their implementation.
