From August 15-18, USAID RADA: Next Generation hosted an interactive online school for 46 representatives from Ukraine’s civil society sector. The goal of the program was to enhance the capacity of Ukrainian public organizations and actively engage them in the lawmaking process.
Participants gained in-depth knowledge on:
- How the Ukrainian Parliament functions and the process of law adoption;
- Where to find reliable information about Parliament’s activities;
- Ways for the public to participate in the lawmaking process and parliamentary oversight;
- The unique aspects of parliamentary advocacy and how it differs from lobbying.
The program was highly interactive, culminating in a two-day simulation game called "Legislative Process," where participants recreated the work of the Verkhovna Rada and other stakeholders. This hands-on approach allowed them to practice new skills and apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting.
The best way to reflect on the initiative is through the feedback from participants:
- “Our NGO is currently conducting advocacy activities at the regional level, so this training was incredibly valuable for me.”
- “I appreciated that most of the content was delivered through practical exercises, which allowed us to develop real-world skills alongside theoretical knowledge.”
- “The systematization of knowledge and previous experience was transformed into practical application.”
- “All the trainers were highly professional and worked seamlessly as a team, complementing each other’s efforts.”
